Move a drive to SSD

This video demonstrates how to increase the performance of your Elastichosts server by converting a traditional spinning disk drive over to a solid state drive (SSD). This may take some time if your disk is large, but will significantly improve your performance, especially for IO-intensive applications such as database use.
  1. From the Elastichosts control panel, power down the server on which your drive is mounted. Now click on the yellow ‘Copy’ button and select Copy to SSD from the drop-down.
  2. This will copy the entirety of the drive to a new SSD drive. Once the copy is complete, update the server settings to mount the new drive instead, then start the server.
  3. Once you are happy with the new SSD drive you can delete the original drive, or keep it as a backup.
  4. That’s it, you have now migrated your drive to SSD and will benefit from increased disk IO performance. It’s that easy to upgrade to SSD in Elastichosts.
